Maintenance & materials

All tools and equipment need regular care – workwear included. Proper maintenance and washing retain the workwear’s qualities longer. Dirty workwear doesn’t only look bad but may also lose its protective and high visibility qualities. All workwear wear out eventually, so it’s also important to replace workwear frequently enough. To make the most out of your workwear, follow these simple instructions and tips.

Wash and remove the traces of hard work

  • Wash the clothes when necessary. Dirt wears fabric out faster than washing.
  • Close the Velcro straps, snap fasteners and zippers before washing.
  • Do not wash full loads (fill the machine only to 60–80 % of the capacity). This way, you can minimise possible damage caused by wrinkling or abrasion, and the clothes get cleaner.
  • Always wash the EN-coded protective clothing separately, inside out. This enables the reflective tapes to stay reflective longer.
  • Avoid soaking clothing items with reflective tapes.
  • Do not use steam when ironing reflective tapes.
  • Keep flame retardant clothing clean.
  • Do not use bar or liquid soap when cleaning flame retardant clothing.
  • Rinse carefully.
  • Drying the clothes in the dryer for too long may shrink the clothes. Remove the clothes from the dryer while they are still a bit damp.
  • Always follow the washing instructions marked in the labels.
  • Keep the clothes on hangers and, if possible, away from sunlight.

Best materials

Great workwear is made from the best materials. That is why we have carefully chosen our fabrics and materials suppliers. For us, it’s important that our suppliers share our values in, for instance, corporate responsibility. Our fabric suppliers are Carrington, Foxa, Klopman and Wernerfelt, all of whom are specialised in workwear fabrics. We only use zippers from YKK, the world’s best known zipper maker. Reflector materials are supplied by Loxy, whose reflectors guarantee efficient and safe visibility. The warm, durable and light Thinsulate wadding used in our winterwear is produced by 3M.

LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS, PREMIUM QUALITY

The principal manufacturing countries for Dimex products are China, Latvia and Estonia.

Finding the right partner

Back in the day, Finland had a thriving textile industry but, due to structural changes, the number of garment production facilities has been steadily declining. In addition, industrial sewing machine operators are no longer trained in Finland, meaning there are less and less sewing professionals available in this country.

We are constantly looking for new manufacturing partners in Europe, as additional capacity is needed to meet our growing production requirements. Also, delivery times from Europe are much shorter when compared to Asia, allowing us to speed up the manufacturing process. Due to the decline in garment manufacturing in Europe, finding new partners nearby is challenging, but fortunately we have found reliable, long-term partners in China that are able to meet our strict quality standards. We are extremely pleased with the fruitful cooperation with the garment production facility in Nanjing where many Dimex clothes have been manufactured for more than a decade.

Quality control and production management

As per the Dimex rule book, we always ensure that the working conditions at our production facilities are better than what is required by local labour legislation. We apply the same principles to all our partners, and if any of them were to violate our agreements, we would cease the cooperation immediately. We carry out continuous quality control and regularly visit garment production facilities.

As it stands, five of our full-time employees are in charge of production management and work meticulously to ensure that the quality of the clothes manufactured, as well as the treatment of employees, meet our strict requirements.
